Here's an idea
Ok, so you might not know that I am on a diet. I joined weight wathcers yesterday. So, I am starving, and someone on the weight watchers board suggested that I eat a bag of 94% fat free kettle corn for a nice filling low point snack. Well I have buttery kettle corn in my desk - NOT 94% fat free, but I do have some 100 calorie packs that are fat free. but darn it, I want kettle corn. So I popped one of the bags (that is worth ZERO points mind you! ) and I sprinkled the popped corn with salt and splenda. YUM! it was so good that I was sitting here sucking on the unpopped kernels. I am seriously considering having another bag, but I probably shouldnt. it IS zero points, but I should save one for tomorrow, and maybe have an apple instead.
Anyway, so yeah, I joined weight watchers. wish me luck.
now onto books. So I read the Twilight series and loved it, (not so much the movie), and I love TrueBlood, and I have loved vampire romance in the past so I looked up some new books. Read the first two books of the Nora Roberts circle trilogy (seth just got the third on cd from the library for me - yay seth - you rock!) and I got Zen and the ARt of Vampires at the airport and LOVED it. unfortunatly the sequel doesnt come out until May, but there are other vampire books by the same author - Katie McAllister, so I have one on order from the library. now I guess I just have to figure out how - now that the holiday break and vacation are over - how I am going to actually find time to READ. I mean, I did just commit to workout too! hmmm, any ideas from the peanut gallery?
No, I didnt drop off the face of the earth
Ok, with that disclaimer out of the way, what have I been up to? well there is the trip to key west. We went for 4 days and had a blast! Ellie just wanted to swim in the pool and play in the sand. But we made her go to the aquarium and the butterfly conservatory, both of which she enjoyed. We also went to dinner a bunch of times and had some really great food. Then we flew home on Christmas eve and went to my parents house where we did the traditional gift of pjs, leave out cookies for santa, then go to bed. In the morning we opened presents, then had breakfast - pancakes and bacon - then opened more presents and played with them. We played a lot of Wii because my parents got some fun new games. Then Lins came over with her kids and we opened more presents, made cookies, played more games, made gingerbread houses, and I drank a whole lot.
Friday we went home and relaxed for a little while before going over to Sherry and Bob's for a Hannukkah celebration. Latkes, candles, and MORE PRESENTS. Sat we had breakfast with Seth's grandfather, before going to my grandparent's house for MORE PRESENTS.This time we got one - a grill! Sunday we tried to recooperate and clean and organize a little before going over to Seth's parents for the last night of Hanukkah and even MORE PRESENTS!!
Oh and lest you think that it is over because Hannukkah is over - think again! Next week we will have another hanukkah celebration with the whole family since some of them were traveling. Yep, my kid is spoiled just a little bit.
So, on my recooperating day, what did I do? I cleaned and scrapped! I put away all my new scrap stuff in my new scrap organizer and scrapped a few layouts.
I had a tough time getting the mojo flowing since it had been a while, but it did and here are a couple.
Sorry for the slightly blurry pictures. These are for my Scrapbook Dreamer Dec reveal. The first is using the Fancy pants stuff and the second is 3 bugs in a rug.

Some new things
This page was so easy and simple, but I just love it! why is it that the ones I love the most are often the simple ones?

What a weekend
So this weekend I had my first LSS Dt meeting. It was fun and I got to choose my own stuff for the next month's challenge and I might teach a class!
I also cleaned the house, did 10 loads of laundry, made cut out cookies, fudge, rice pudding, hershey's kiss cookies, 3 mini albums, 3 scrapbook pages, an altered item and a card.
now today I am miserable. I dont really know why, just in a funk and I can't get out of it - hence the short hand blog post. not my usual long-winded self.
anyway here you go - a page that I worked on for my scrapbook dreamer dec dt reveal. Using fancy pants papers, ek success punch (love that thing), puffy paint, dew drop things, a ymbd label and foam tape and ink.

What else is new
This one was for a challenge. I think it might have been Scrapjacked blog. Either way, I think it turned out really cute. I love this photo of Ellie totally wiped out after her trip to see the horses and with blue cotton candy residue on her face.
Most of this is Sass Lass.. the letters are American Crafts, the bling is glitz and the paper background is MM
And this one was from my YMBD DT reveal for December. The stars, snowflakes, labels and stickers are all YMBD. The paper is love elsie, the ribbon is stolen from the trash of a bridal shower - it was on a williams-sonoma gift. And that is my favorite photo of ellie from last christmas, just total awe that santa had come.
ok back to your regularly scheduled programming, and back to yahtzee party for me

December Already?!
Here is a little tutorial on making gift tags. Maybe I am the only one who didnt find this intuitive, but it works SO much better to make them all on one sheet and THEN cut them apart!
To make these tags, I started by choosing a stamp. I like this Christmas tree one and it sort of matches my wrapping paper, but you could use any stamp. I measured the stamp and decided that 3x3 inch tags would work perfectly. so I marked the grey cardstock with pencil lines at 3in intervals. Then I stamped a tree with staz on ink (just because it seems to be the darkest black - you could use any ink really) into each square. Next I embellished the trees with stickles. I chose raspberry for the ornaments on the trees and silver for the stars on top because the colors match my wrapping paper. After that was dry, I used a martha stewart glue pen to put little dots for more shine, and then sprinkled green martha stewart glitter on top. (I did one row of trees at a time and then after the glitter was on, I did the next row before shaking the glitter down the paper onto the next row - so I didnt have to keep shaking out more glitter)
Here is an up close view of one. I was working very quickly so I missed a line here. But I figure, once it is on the present, no one will notice.
Next I cut them apart and inked the edges with a coordinating ink color. I couldnt decide which I liked better so I did some green and some raspberry.
and ta-da! filled out with coordinating marker!
there are a lot of steps and the drying time made it take a while, but really, I made two sheets of 16 tags each and it seemed like it took no time at all! They dont have to be perfect because no one is going to examine the gift tags. But I really like the extra touch that the glitter gives.
and I will leave you with a pic of ellie on santa's lap - she sure looks happy doesnt she?!
She would not smile for anything. And we didnt really plan the visit to santa, he just happened to be there and she was interested. So that is why she isnt dressed up. Oh well, you take what you can get right?! If she was interested then I was going to go for it dressed up or not!

My Twilight review
----------------------------------------------------------------------
ok, dont hate me for saying this, but ...
I pretty much hated the movie. I think a big part of it was Edward. I just dont find him attractive at all. and he really wasnt anything like I pictured. although, I think that is partly because I pictured him older - which is my own fault of course. but still, I thought his makeup was too heavy, his hair was just awful, hated his eyebrows and his lips. well, yeah, pretty much just didnt like him at all. I mean the actor that plays him is ok without all that makeup, but in my opinion, just ok. and with all that makeup, well, just plain weird. Didnt like the casting for Jacob either, but I think in the next movie I will SOOOO be team Jake, because I just dislike Edward so much.
And then I guess I fell into a lot of the problems with watching a movie after reading the book - it just didnt explain it right. And I totally 'got it' but DH went with me and I had to explain things to him the whole time and after the fact while we were making fun of it all night, there were more things he just didnt get.
Finally, - lol, could I really rip it any more?- I didnt like the way it was filmed. Im not a film buff or anything, in fact that was the first time I saw a movie in the theater in over a year, but I just thought the filming was weird, like soap opera dream sequence-esque. I guess it was meant to give it an ethereal feel, but I just found it weird.
wanna know who I thought was hot? James! lol!
oh and Carlisle was a close second. I guess I just really dont like younger boys. I have always had a thing for older men and I guess now that I am older, it just doenst go the other way.
I liked Bella, Esme and Alice and Emmett and Bella's Dad and Bella's friends. I thought Rosalie was poorly cast too. oh and I liked all the bad vampires, thought they were done really well. Can't wait to see more of Victoria.
oh and the cheesiness! omg! yeah I guess the book was cheesy, because most of the really cheesy parts came straight from the book, but there were times when I was just like 'omg did she REALLY just say that?" then again maybe it was the way it was acted and filmed. One scene that comes to mind is where he is saying, "say it, out loud, say it" and she says, "vampire" - it was unbelievably cheesy! I just totally had to roll my eyes at that one and almost felt like I watching one of those spoof movies like 'Scary Movie'. It was so beyond cliche.
So, as much as I really didnt love it. I will be seeing the second one and I am glad that they are making it.
great weekend
I had a really fabulous weekend. Very 'well balanced' plenty of rest, plenty of me time, plenty of family time, and I even accomplished a little something!
Friday I cleaned a little and scrapped a lot. Then we had dinner with the in-laws like usual. Saturday I cleaned some more, the cleaning people came over and cleaned a lot, I did laundry and scrapped, then we dropped ellie off at her grandparents and went to see Twilight. after the movie we went to dinner at the California Pizza Kitchen and had a great time chatting and making fun of the movie. (we havent had so much to talk aobut , or the time to do it in ages!) then we wandered the mall a little and went shopping in the disney store. I always buy a christmas ornament with the year on it. We got a tinkerbell with light up wings this year. and then we got a bunch of sets of figurines for ellie - the whole Beauty and the Beast, Cinderella and Sleeping Beauty collections. And they were all on sale!! oh and I found an adorable sweater dress that I HAD to get for her, because she wears dresses all the time and I wanted to get her a warm one, but they didnt have it in her size, so I called my Grandmother to see if she could check the store near her. Well she found one at a mall in between us, so we met up there the next day, after I had picked ellie up and ran a couple other errands. We met at the mall, did a little more sale Disney shopping, ellie sat on Santa's lap, then we ate lunch. When we got home I did a little more scrapping and helped ellie make some glittery snowflakes we watched some TV and got out some Christmas decorations, then had dinner and made pumpkin bread. GREAT GREAT weekend!
and here are a few pages using Fancy pants stuff from the Scrapwords store!

chore chart
for the base of this I used a shipping envelope. Just covered it with patterned paper and embellished. Then I punched the holes with my crop-a-dile and threaded ribbon through the pages (printed from word 2 to a page) and tied the ribbon in the back. Then I made little snips in the pages to make them easier to tear off.
This is the first thing that I used my new Slice on too!
So far Ellie is really on board with the whole star thing. She kept asking for a star all day yesterday then when I gave her one she was so excited! She now has three because she had earned one earlier in the week and then we gave her one for picking up her toys before settling on the 'before bed - one star per day' plan.
I couldnt settle on how to hang it up, so we just have it on the fridge with a magnetic chip clip holding it up.

dream girls challenge
I made a page about Ellie. and I used a mask on the background (which is a clear plastic cutting mat, which I traced a MM shaped paper onto and cut into that shape) - I used a KI lace cardstock (sprayed with acrylic gloss to prevent it from getting soaked)as a mask then I used alcohol ink in a spray bottle. Then I used an American Crafts slick writer to trace the designs and make them stand out a little more.
the metal is the brads. I had plans to add a lot more embellishments but I liked it sort of plain to let the background show.

Just Get Over It
Here is an interesting quote that I found on CNN.com: "According to exit polls, Obama crushed McCain among women voters (56 percent to 43 percent); voters under 30 (66 percent to 32 percent); African-American voters (95 percent to 4 percent); Latino voters (66 percent to 32 percent); first-time voters (68 percent to 31 percent); and voters making less than $100,000 a year (55 percent to 43 percent)."
I am in THREE of those categories, and four if you count that this is the first PRESIDENTIAL election that I voted in. weird.

Some Sass Lass Pages
I wish I could say something inspiring about what a historical day this is and all that, but to be honest, I am just too tired. I am bummed that I didnt stay up to see the speeches last night, and I am bummed for all the people who hoped for McCain and are scared about the outcome. I realize that someone had to win and I am happy with the person who did. If McCain had won, I would be one of the scared ones, but I am still sad for the other side.

I voted! Did you?
It is just amazing! This is truly a historic time for our country. I know there are not enough hours in the day believe me, but get out there and find the time to vote! do it for yourself, for our country and for our children.
And now, in case you havent noticed the little blinkie I have on my blog, I am going to go out of character and share my political viewpoint :

Happy Birthday Eliana!
I got up early and got donuts for breakfast for Eliana, and you should have seen the look on her face when she saw it. She said, "oooh, a donut for my BIRTHDAY" then she sat down and we chatted and she told me she is three now and her name isnt ellie anymore it is Eliana now. lol!
so I got to work early so that I can get home early and do presents and maybe cake. I say maybe because I havent actually obtained a cake yet, and we are doing cake tomorrow so I dont know if I even want to.
oh and one more thing. Last night the Phillies won the world series and while I am already sick of hearing about it and am not at all a sports fan, I just have to share that as I was getting ready for bed I could hear the people in my town honking and yelling and doing fireworks. I have to admit that that was kinda cool.

LSS DT 4 Me!!!
Ok, I havent actually been to the store and it isnt exactly convenient to my house, but still, I am super excited! It is only about 20mins from my office - which means it is about an hour and 15mins from my house.
I am setting up a time to go see the store and meet the DT lead. I am so excited! Maybe I will get to start doing classes or going to crops or meeting people, or all three! woohoo!
For any of you local people, it is Creative Inkling in Peddler's Village, Lahaska, PA.

warning: political
------------------------------------------
Wait, I did love this great quote about undecided votors
"I look at these people and can't quite believe that they exist. Are they professional actors? I wonder. Or are they simply laymen who want a lot of attention? To put them in perspective, I think of being on an airplane. The flight attendant comes down the aisle with her food cart and, eventually, parks it beside my seat. "Can I interest you in the chicken?" she asks. "Or would you prefer the platter of shit with bits of broken glass in it? To be undecided in this election is to pause for a moment and then ask how the chicken is cooked."
- Author David Sedaris, on undecided voters
And I guess it's up to you to decide who the platter of shit is, but in my head the platter is frozen and the chicken is dark meat. And I'm going with the dark meat.

I made this page using the Webster's Pages papers and journaling cards that I got from the Scrapwords store. I was inspired by the Method Playground blog challenge #30 presented by Wendy Rago. She challenged us to use cardboard, chipboard, patterned paper and ribbon. I also made this page with the Websters pages blog challenge in mind - to use cutting and make a page about a favorite object.

my retreat
I went on a scrapbooking retreat this weekend. It was AWESOME! There were 9 women in a house specifically designed for scrapping. We each got a 6ft long table, a really comfy chair, a really comfy bed, use of a kitchen and snack bar, there were two awesome big screen tv{readmore}'s (one is the crop room and one in the great room) and a little store with the essentials and some other goodies in case of emergency. Oh and some other punches a cricut and stamps. So fun! I learned some new things, met some new people and had a LOT of scrapping time! Friday I got there at 2pm, but I had a bit of a migraine. Not terrible, but not great and I ended up in bed at 8pm. But Sat I scrapped until midnight! Can't remember the last time I was up that late!
(yesterday I was home with Ellie because she is sick) So, now I am back at work, had my flu shot (yuk) and back to the norm.
Here is one of the things that I worked on - this lovely Jenni Bowlin mini album from scrapwords! I love the shape of this and there are SOOOO many pages! So many in fact that I ran out of photos and had a few pages left over. The good news about that is that the pages make great journaling spots! I had all of these pictures of ellie making different faces, and I thought they would make really cute book to keep at my office. One day she wanted to pose for me, so I told her to smile, then show me a sad face, then a mad face, etc. I have no idea what the 'I bit a lemon' face is supposed to be, surprised maybe?
I just loved these photos and the pages of the book so I decided to keep it simple. I think I need to add something though but I cant decide what. (let me know if you have any ideas)
Anyway, I used Sassafrass Lass paper and borders, and stickers, an urban lily rubon, some Love Elsie ribbon, fancy pants felt, Sassafrass Lass rub-ons (that Les STILL doesnt have in the store), alpha stamps from the target dollar spot, stazon ink, misc brad, foam dots under the corners, some heidi grace chipboard that I had lying around, misc punches - including the photo corners punch that I just HAVE to HAVE! And I used some KI Memories Bloom for the yellow paper because I wanted to use THIS Sassafrass lass paper, but I had run out, so I used the closest thing I could find.
and if I do say so myself, dont you just love the scalloped border behind that photo? the other side of that sass lass paper has scalloped journaling spots, I had cut one out and it was laying with the blue checked side up and I thought - how cute! so I used the scallops on another part as a template and cut it down to the correct size, then traced it again for the other page that I used one on.

Scrapwords Star Starting!
What else do I have to share. Hmmmm, well I thought about posting a Obama campaign ad that I saw on someones blog today, but I will spare you and just say that I watched the debate last night and got tired and bored by the end of the first hour, but it just solidified my choice. I thought that McCain did a lot of childish finger pointing and a lot of standard politician question dodging. And I still want someone to tell me what he was writing when he first walked out. I just started cracking up because it looked like he had a cheat sheet back stage that he was trying to remember and wanted to write it down asap before he forgot.
Ok, off my platform now.
Onto scrapping - hmmm, what have I not showed you yet?
How about some things from my Scrapbook Dreamer reveal.
The letters in this first one didnt come from Dreamer, they are making memories and I was really kinda peeved when I found out that I was missing one. (after I took the photo obviously) those letters were AWFUL!!
oh and on a totally random aside - how is it that Seth is the one back in school and I am the one having nightmares about not getting my homework done on time? what's up with that?
Tuesday, October 7, 2008
some thoughts today
I had no idea who it was but figured it had to be one of the candidates. Now my coworkers who went out to lunch have been saying how bad the traffic is, so I googled it. Its Joe Biden in town for his MILs funeral
Second: what do you think about Disney re-releases, and this Sleeping Beauty one in particular? I am thinking of getting it for Ellie for her birthday, but I worry that it might be too scary. Then the other part of me wonders how much different it is from the one that came out the last time they released it? I mean, great marketing technique on Disney's part.
Third: Ellie is now signed up for Gymnastics class. I am excited because it gives Seth more time to study, AND ellie gets to do something she likes, and I get to feel like I am a 'good mom' who sends her kid to gymnastics class
Finally, some projects from the 2scrappychix Oct project kit featuring moxxie halloween stuff:
