random thoughts

wow, I must be bored. Its been a long time since I had just a general post so here you go.

1. I was just looking back over my blog and realized that I have been creating a WHOLE LOT of cards lately and not very many scrapbook pages. I mean, I knew I was doing cards but I didnt realize just how many. Its just odd because I dont consider myself a card maker, but I am loving the digi stamp idea and these cards are giving me a chance to play around with new techniques. Oh and new challenges of course!

2. I am, not so patiently waiting for my first assignment for the ACOT creative team. Still super excited about it, but really wishing I could get going on it.

3. I am definitely not waiting patiently for vacation. I am SO beyond ready for that. Dont expect to see any new scrappy stuff from me for a couple of weeks. This week I will be packing after work, then next week on vacay then unpacking, THEN after labor day I will have new scrappy stuff. Please don't abandon me or my blog because I will be back with new and exciting things.

4. As I was looking back over my blog I realized that I have gotten myself into another rut! This time the rut is not Design Team work like before, but challenges. I have about 30 challenge blogs that I follow and I frantically try to get as many done as possible each weekend. For a while this was totally inspiring me, but now I am looking at my work from the last couple weeks and thinking that the inspiration from the challenges has passed. I think I need to try to slow down again and just do pages as I am inspired. But how to keep myself and my competitive/overachiever personality from making me enter all these contests? how do I just pick the ones that truly inspire me? maybe a 2 week scrappy break is what I need. I am going to do some sketching on vacation. Dont know if I will be sharing any of that but maybe that will refresh things.

I guess that's it for now.

I won at magistical memories!

Check it out here. I won Magistical Memories' July contest with my Joy in the Little Things page:

found a blog candy giveaway

check this out
love this blog and the challenges and giveaways can't be beat! seriously, check it out!

last card for the day

this card is already given away and gone! this one was for the party ellie went to on saturday morning. I used the sketch from the spoon full of sugar blog. I kept it simple with only a little patterned paper from basic grey and primary colors (for a 4yr old boy).

Photobucket

another bday card

sorry for the blurry photo. this card is from the sketch from the sketch saturday blog for this week. and I used the primary colors again because this was for the 4 yr old bday party today. the digi stamp is from sgtstamper at splitcoaststampers.

Photobucket

circle card

this card is for the scrapbook dreamer monthly card challenge and for the if the shoe fits challenge to make a circular card. It is also using the cats pj's sketch for this week, although the sketch was for a rectangular card with rounded corners, I thought it looked kind of like circles overlapping.

Photobucket

dragonfly card

this was supposed to be for the flourishes fit for royalty challenge - purple is the color of royalty, but I missed the deadline. oh well. I still used the sketch from priscillastyles and the dragonfly digi stamp is from lindsays stamp stuff. For this card, I colored the dragonfly image in with crayons (mostly glitter and metallic thanks to Ellie's giant wheel-o-crayons that her Dad bought her) then I sprayed it with gold and purple glimmer mist (and just a touch of blue but that was a mistake becuase its too dark) then I wiped the glimmer mist off of the crayon and used the heat gun on it to dry it and melt the crayon a little. In retrospect I probably should have printed this one on non textured cardstock and/or melted the crayon first so that it covered better and the resist technique worked better. then I just went to town with frames and the sketch. the little journaling spot on the sentiment is one of YMBDs new printables. I colored it with copics.

Photobucket

horse card

the horse on this card is another free digi stamp. I found this one on splitcoast stampers from sewmanycards. love it! The sketch is from ICS
this is also for the ABC blog challenge for A - anything goes with an option of animals. for this card, I printed the horse, colored him with copics. I rounded the corners because it was supposed to be a circle (according to the sketch). The card base is made from fancy pants kraft patterned paper. And for the triangle I really wanted to use this moxxie horse paper that Janet gave me a while ago, I knew I still had a little bit lying around. ... Well when I found it, it had been attacked by Ellie with pinking shears, but I thought - hey why not piece it together with a zig zag stitch. The horse has patchworks on him! so I made the triangle from a scrap paper and glued the scraps of horse paper onto it, trying to get the straighter edges showing so it would be easier to sew. Then I sewed along the seams with a zig zag stitch. then I decided to make it a bit smaller and sew it onto the brown cardstock with a zig zag stitch too. the brown behind the horse is chatterbox. and the sticker is also moxxie.

birthday card

this card was inspired by the challenge at scrapperie to use a wordle as inspiration. I decided to make my own wordle using the lyrics from the happy birthday song. I got this from wordle.com.
then I used the sketch from paper popsicles and also the challenge from jacksonbelle embellishments to use no stamping. and since we had three 4 yr old birthday parties this weekend, I decided to go with a primary color scheme.

another page

I dont love this one, I think it needs some more embellishments, or maybe smaller photos. but here it is, I used the sketchy thursday sketch.

Photobucket

grow

here is a page with the new Sassafras lass me likey line. this is from a sketch from Capture these sketches

Photobucket

layout

this page was inspired by the basic grey stickers that I got in one of my classes at CKC. I didnt have any of the paper but I thought it went pretty nicely with this red and yellow bo bunny. I used the sketch from little shop of sketches and combined my photos into a collage as inspired by a challenge at scrapbook dreamer.

final digi stamp card

can you tell I am addicted yet? seriously, how did I not know about digi stamps before? I dont have a big stamp collection because they are so expensive and I feel like I wont get enough use out of them, plus I am not that great at getting good crisp images. So digi stamps are perfect for me! I loved coloring them in too. so here is another one with a freebie from lily boo's boutique and using the sketch from 2 sketches for you!

Photobucket

yet another digi stamp card

this one is using a new digi stamp freebie from nina at http://theresmagicintheair.blogspot.com combined with the sketch from sketch saturday and the color challenge for this week at spcc which happens to be the same color scheme as a brand new blog that I found If the Shoe fits..Scrap it

in real life, the colors are a little more subtle and the fairy's mouth isnt quite so dramatic.

Photobucket

another digi stamp card

this card was inspired by the friday freebie digital stamp at paper popsicles. I combined it with the sketch from mojo mondays and the color challenge from the pink elephant. This is also for the Pile it on and 2 red bananas challenges to use only cardstock - no patterned paper. I used little dots of glue from my martha stewart glue pen and doodlebug glitter to add a little sparkle to her polka dots and tiny hair things in her hair (no they werent there but I thought they should be). I also used some not quite clear acrylic that I had lying around. Its a scrap from a dollar store cutting mat that I had used for another project. I wrapped the ribbon a bunch of times to cover the glue on the back of the cardstock.

My new favorite thing

digi stamps! I found out about a couple of freebies from Deanne's blog First there was this challenge at the Kaboodle blog to use a digital stamp. I used the same freebie from lily boo's boutique that Deanne used. And I combined it with the sketch from CPS

Photobucket

thinking of you card

for this card I used the sketch from ICS but oops guess I didnt read it well enough, it was supposed to be a Christmas card. oh well, this one is still cute dont you think?!

a moment of wonder

this page was based on the sketch from sketch this I printed the journaling spot from YMBD's new line of downloadables, isnt that cool?! so easy to use and cute! and conveniently enough, printing a journaling spot is the hybrid challenge this month at ACOT. The inspiration for the title was from the first august challenge at Category Stories. - 'stuck in a moment'. This layout is also for the scrap whispers challenge to use a mismatched title.

sisters card

this card was from the mojo monday sketch. I also used the colors from the SPCC blog for this week.

Photobucket

happy birthday card

this card was so much fun to make. I used the sketch from 2 sketches for you blog. then I used the color scheme from the use it blog, but I didnt do the rest of the challenge - to use an old tool and alphas. Finally, I incorporated the requirements for this week's pink elephant challenge - to use three brads one flower and designer paper (from lily bee) . and finally this is for the flourishes timeless tuesday challenge to use hardware. the metal flower leaf and brad are hardware. they are from tim holtz.

Wednesday, August 5, 2009

Wooohoo! I can finally spill!

I was chosen to be on the Creative Team at A Cherry On Top.com! I am beyond excited. Seriously, Ive known for a couple days and been dying to share. ACOT was pretty much the first site that I joined when I started scrapping and I have always loved shopping and cropping there. The site navigation and selection is top notch. Heck, it's the 5th largest online scrapbook store so I guess that has something to do with it. And I have always looked up to the talented ladies on the team there and wished I could one day join them, and now I have! I know, Im gushing, Im a dork for being so excited. I seriously still can't believe it. but ok, check it out here is the link to the announcement.

untitled page

this is my latest favorite page. actually I can't really tell if its 'good' or not, but I just like it. Seth says its too busy, but I dont care. I like the whimsical feel to it and am proud of myself for thinking to use the clear embossing under glimmer mist to create the background. plus, ive had these papers for a while and while i love them, I was having trouble working with them, maybe becuase I love them soo much. anyway, Im bored so Im posting another page today. it'll make the rest of the week less interesting but oh well.

Photobucket

Lets go fly a kite

This page is for the pagemaps blog challenge and the american crafts blog challenge. I used the sketch from the page maps blog and my american crafts favorite item is the thickers. I also used american crafts papers, bazzill papers, daisy d's rub on runner, fiskars border punch and my little shoebox letters. I hand cut the frame and traced around the trees on the background paper to make them pop a little more.
