Happily Ever After Card

I am going to try to get a better photo of this, but until then, this one will have to do. for this card, I was inspired by the Webster's Pages hybrid challenge this month to 'cut those papers', and the moxie fab cityscape challenge. for some reason I like to doodle cityscapes when I am sitting in meetings. So, I was feverishly looking through all my work papers for the one that I drew a couple of months ago, but I couldn't find it. Then I thought - ooh I could draw a sort of European/medieval town cityscape, and use THAT as a digi stamp and then mask it with the soft Hollywood Vogue digi papers. Then I added a digital simple sentiment from Paper Crafts magazine - and voila! I printed the sentiment and the castle part on the background, then cut out the city by hand and popped it up on pop dots. I added the Webster's Pages Hollywood Vogue sticker frame, matted on black cardstock, a black twill ribbon, some pins and some pearls and voila! I love the town, but the castle - not so much. So I would like to try another one with just the town, maybe layered. But I ran out of time this weekend. (too much time spent hanging with friends and playing outside) and I just couldn't wait to share my drawing.

My Little Shoebox sketch

here is the page I created for the my little shoebox sketch. I am seriously low on MLS stuff, so I ended up making my own embellishments for this. I used glimmer mist on the orange lantern and sanding on the pink one, to make the paper into two different shades of the same color.

Paper Crafts Reject blog hop

how fun is this? Dr. Amber apparently started last month posting the projects that didn't make it into paper crafts this time. To see the others check out her blog. This was my first time submitting, but I did think that my project was kind of cool - I used one of the sketches to create this box. I used lots of fabritac to glue the fabric lining to the box, and cover the raw edges of it with the ribbon. The papers are pink paislee and the letters are october afternoon.

My Mind's Eye Lush sketch card

Well, I really didn't like the first card that I made for this challenge, so I made another one. It's funny, this one is almost identical, to the first. But I kept it more simple and this one I just adore! I used the Navy Lush 2 and some grosgrain navy ribbon from really reasonable ribbon, along with some letters from cosmo cricket. This is also for the really reasonable ribbon, one for the boys challenge, since I think this navy is very dignified and masculine.

lily bee, sketchy thursdays and how cricut hates me

I made this layout with the sketchy thursdays sketch and also for the lily bee - make paper embellishments challenge. I know the lily bee challenge had more like flowers in mind - which I love and make all the time, but this layout just called for clouds. So I decided to hit up my cricut. OH BOY! Die cut machines HATE me! I had a wishblade, it hated me. I got a slice, it hated me - sent it back to be fixed twice and finally gave up. Got a cricut because EVERYONE has one, and can use it. (and it was on clearance at walmart) well, apparently everyone except me can use the cricut. I wanted to cut these clouds and it took me like 2 hours! My blade was brand new. (but not the first time I used it, probably like the 5th) my mat was old, so I switched it out for a new one, still didn't work! first I had tearing, then I had not cutting all the way through, then tearing again. argh! anyway, I finally got the clouds, and they were just what I was picturing, except they were a little flat. So I used some crackle accents on them.

Cosmo Cricket wanna get published sketch

This is the page that I created for the Cosmo Cricket 'get published in Scrapbook Trends' sketch contest. I love the Circa 1934 line, and I wanted to show a softer side of it here.

Creamsicle My Mind's Eye sketch layout

I am LOVING this orange, it is very much outside my comfort zone and that's one of the things that I love about it. I like the monochromatic orange with this photo because there is orange in her costume, and there is so much color going on in the photo, that I think the monochromatic sort of tones it down a little. The color scheme here really reminds me of a creamsicle though ;) This is for the My Mind's Eye sketch challenge this month - celebrate today.

ACOT Reveal, GCD Layout and Twisted Sketch

This month I did a reveal/tutorial about misting and masking for my ACOT reveal. I was feeling a little uninspired and just plain busy this month, so I used a bunch of sketches and other inspirations. Here is the layout that I created from the Twisted Sketch. For this one I used layered masking, and I also misted the chipboard letters. Most of these supplies are from My Mind's Eye's new Lush line, which I adore! Check out the mini tutorial for this layout in my article at ACOT HERE.

and here is my GCD studios layout that I gave the sneak of yesterday. This one has masking and a resist technique, which is again in the tutorial in the article HERE.

Ribbon Storage

Really Reasonable Ribbon has been talking about ribbon storage. and someone just emailed me about my post on the CK blog storage discussion asking for a photo, AND this is my favorite thing to look at in my studio, so I thought I would share a photo of my ribbon storage here. My husband says I am a little brave, because this shelf is right above my head, but these vases from the dollar tree fit perfectly on it. And they are the perfect size because I can just fit my hand down inside (and I have large hands). although, as you can see here, I am running out of space in some of them, so I am going to need to come up with an alternative. So far I have separated out the 'really special' trims - like the ones that have all the ribbon roses on them, and my wide silk ones. The purple you see here is actually flowers. I have the purple, white and black ribbon stored elsewhere, because I had a very small amount of purple and a very large amount of black and white. Now that I am looking at this though, I think I need to get some more pink!

Happy Birthday Chick card

oh, I kind of adore how this card turned out! I used a sassy designs digi stamp and a bunch of challenges as a sort of recipe.

I added the sentiment digitally before printing. and since I lack those cool nestabilities dies, I cut my own ovals and created the scalloped border using a bunch of small circles.

This is for the really reasonable ribbon green theme challenge, and I was thrilled to break open my first order from them for this green grosgrain ribbon. It came in a delightful assortment pack, which I normally wouldn't buy, but I was running REALLY low on green ribbons and I never think to buy them. It was perfect! I got a yellow pack too and love it too!

There were lots of challenges out there all about green this week because of saint patty's day. I thought I was going to have to forgo all of them, thinking that mostly green wouldn't work for anything else, and I dont really do saint patty's day, but this turned out lovely! The crafty creations blog had a geen and blue feminine birthday challenge, and that is what inspired me. The sassy studios challenge this week was to use green also. Flourishes also had a green challenge as their timeless tuesday challenge this week.

Bee Crafty and Cute Card thursday and Lollipop crafts added in the spring and florals theme.

Robyns fetish asked for punches of dies, which I already had from the scallops. And digi tuesday requested celebrations as the theme, which gave me the type of card - birthday.

The sketch came from the tuesday morning challenge blog.

I won Crowned!

I just found out that I won the Crown at the crowned competition over at Scrapdango! And seriously, it could not have come at a better time. If you have not checked out Scrapdango, you need to (this means you Sandy!) I have been playing over there all month and am totally loving it! This month they just started a new contest all about using up your stash to make room for the new CHA stuff.

I will be posting some of my Crowned creations in a couple of days. I am so proud of all of them, and since I held them back for the duration of the contest, I submitted most of them to publications.

Project 12 February page

Oh how I am adoring these new My Mind's Eye papers! This is the page that I completed for the Scrapbook and Cards today Project 12, using the sketch below by Becky Fleck. I normally am not a huge fan of double page layouts but I think this one turned out pretty well. I love how crisp the navy looks with the white stitching and yellow accents.

ACOT March challenges are up

Here is my layout for the trends and techniques challenge. This month I challenge you to use one of these rose ribbons that seem to be everywhere these days. I used Websters Pages Bloomers but there are lots of other companies that make similar products Bo Bunny, Making Memories and American Crafts to name a few. Check out all of the challenges HERE.

I totally stole this from Traci Hudson, but I really like it.

listening - to the silence of the office
eating - just born jelly beans
drinking - water and coffee
wearing - not your daughter's jeans and a long sleeve t-shirt.
feeling - content
weather - the same
wanting - to spend the day creating
needing - to get a lot of work done
thinking - of moving to savannah
enjoying - that there is only one more day left in my work week
wondering - if seth will get into South University.
