Fangtastic Birthday Wishes

I know a few people with birthdays right around Halloween, including Ellie! So, I couldn't wait to use this stamp. Joy asked us to make 3-D projects this week, and I found the pattern for this coffin box from martha stewart. It was so easy! (although I bet a cricut one would have been easier)

I used pink paislee paper from last year or the year before. The bat was cut with my cricut using the Chic and Scary cartridge. The stamp is from the Joy's Life Halloween Puns set. I used clearsnap pigment ink in blackbird to stamp the sentiment then embossed it in black also.

My Little Shoebox and Want 2 Scrap

My Little Shoebox has teamed up with Want 2 Scrap to bring you some inspiration all this week with the collaboration of My Little Shoebox collections and products from Want 2 Scrap.

I’m so excited to share this scrapbook page that I created with the My Little Shoebox Vintage Shop line and some Want to Scrap chipboard and swirls.
I used a sketch from Northridge Publishing.Underneath the photo I created a bunch of layered banners using the My Little Shoebox die cuts and some Want to scrap chipboard. I covered the chipboard with patterned paper and sanded the edges to make it match the distressed edges of the die cuts. I also covered the chipboard pieces with glossy accents to make them stand out just a little bit more.

The date piece is also Want 2 Scrap chipboard that I covered in patterned paper. The pearl swirls are also from Want 2 Scrap. The stickers, die cuts, papers and alpha stickers are all from MLS. For the pink part of the title, I lightly stuck the letters down, traced them and peeled the stickers back up.

I hope you enjoy the my project and the others that are featured today. We’re also offering a chance for you to win some My Little Shoebox goodies for yourself.

Joy's Life Embossed Halloween Card

I had this card in my head for a while. I am always trying to come up with simple, classy Halloween cards. When Joy asked us to use embossing this week, it seemed like the perfect match for this style.

I used the Oct 31st stamp from the Halloween Puns set. I embossed it in black on the kraft paper, then embossed it in clear, in a pattern on the black card itself. I love using embossing to create subtly textured patterns.

The spider web was cut using my cricut and the Chic and Scary cartridge. The inks and embossing powders are all Clearsnap. I drew the spiders and their threads by hand.

New York Comic Con NYCC 2012

You probably didn't notice, but I've been a little scarce around the crafting community lately. Among other things, I have been working on sewing my costume and finishing up Ellie's for the Comic Con, and then of course attending it.

Here we are with the lego gandalf and bilbo statues

I think my costume turned out pretty well if I do say so myself. Here are the photos of my costume and Ellie's from the movie. this is what I was aiming for.
Not too bad right?

We had a great time at the convention, even though it was BEYOND crowded.
Here is the hobbit hiding in plain sight at the train station.

Here she is waiting for something at the con - we did a lot of waiting. But arent those curls adorable?! They fell out after only an hour or two, and we got back to the hotel so late on Saturday that I didn't bother putting the curlers in for Sunday, though.

Ellie doing her split for the costume contest. She got such a great response when she did it last time, as black widow, that she thought she would do it again, regardless of the fact that Frodo wouldn't do that. She said, 'it's something not everyone can do' True. True.

Joy's Life Halloween Blog Hop

I wanted to keep this card simple and elegant. I chose a purple, black and kraft color scheme. I cut the witch  with my cricut and the Chic and Scary cartridge. Then I stamped the 'Boo' stamp repeatedly on the kraft paper. I adhered the witch cut out over the stamped paper with foam tape.

I used the 'Boo' and the 'Having a bad spell?' stamps from the Halloween Puns set.

You should have arrived here from Amy. If not, you might want to go back to the beginning to make sure you don't miss any of the fabulous inspiration and prizes. Otherwise, you are heading on to Jennie!

WCMD post - just for fun

There is so much going on today! I just had to make one more card for the World Card Making Day festivities.

I made this card with my Skipping Stones designs sets. I used the Sassy Shoes set and the Timeless Textures set. The inks are all clearsnap.

WCMD with Clearsnap

This is the card that I created. I wanted to do a neutral wedding card. I started by stamping the brown frame, masking out the center. Then I stamped the couple, with the frame masked. Finally I stamped the watches, balloons, hands and butterflies, in twinkle embossing ink and embossed them with opalescent clear embossing powder.

The stamps are from Hampton Art. The inks and embossing powder are, of course, clearsnap.

Best Witches treat box

Joy asked us this week to make Halloween treat holders. I chose this stamp because I like that it works for a Halloween birthday! I used a paper mache box that was kraft color and came in a set from ACMoore. I covered it with patterned paper from My Mind's Eye and Basic Grey.
The stamp is from the Joy's Life Halloween Puns set
The die cuts are from the Teresa Collins chic and scary cricut cartridge. the bling is My Mind's eye.

Renaissance Faire!

Remember how I said yesterday that I would tell you what I have been up to? Well here it is! Ellie has been reading the Lord of the Rings books with her dad and is really into it, so she wanted to be Frodo the hobbit. Being the good mom that I am, I broke out my sewing machine and my previously meager skills and made this costume for her!
For reference, here's a pic of Elijah Wood playing Frodo in the movie. He has a coat on here over his vest and shirt but under his cloak. I skipped the coat because, really, isn't a cloak, a vest and a shirt enough?
In the past, the pretty much home decor stuff, which is all straight lines. I made a footie pajama snow leopard halloween costume for ellie before she was born (she was born the day before Halloween), but it was WAY too big because seam allowances and I don't get along.

So, I am REALLY proud of myself for making this costume. The pants were from a pattern that was for cargo pants, but I skipped the extra pockets, so she just has the two front standard slanted pockets.

The cloak was not from a pattern at all, just instructions online, and look at that hood! Isn't that cute?!

The shirt was from a pattern for a pirate shirt, but it had a 'V' neck with ties, so I modified the pattern to create a sort of bib on the front with an overlap for buttons. (in this photo there arent any buttons yet and it's being held closed with a safety pin)

The vest was from a pattern I found online for an 'up to 5T' boys vest. I made it larger and it worked beautifully! (have to look up that blog post and link it up here)

Look at how the cloak billows! I loved that!

These pictures were from the first outing of the costume at the Renaissance Faire. We have to work on her hair more. She wanted it wavy, so I added some gel and scrunched and let her sleep on it wet, hoping to leverage her natural curl, but it ended up just looking dirty. Of course, Frodo was on a trek, so he WAS kind of dirty, but still... We are trying curlers next time.

We had a GREAT TIME at the Renaissance Fair! Ellie and I learned how to Scottish peasant dance (it was scottish day). She learned to sword fight. (and bought a sword to add to her costume, so that now I have to make her a sword belt). We ate turkey legs, tasted wine, and shopped and shopped and shopped.

oh, and now I am working on MY costume. I am going to be Arwen, the elf princess from the Lord of the Rings. Here's the costume that I am working on

Skipping Stones Designs 148

It's only been a couple of days since a post went live here on my blog, but it feels like it's been forever to me. That's because most of the recent posts were scheduled WAY in advance. Fall is just super busy for us, so I was planning ahead. More tomorrow about what I've been up to. My 'slacking off' has caught up to me in the paper crafting world though, and I had a few things that I had to get done this past weekend - including this card here. This one turned out to be my favorite. It was lucky that I had a sketch and had planned out what I was going to do, because I have been sick! It's nothing serious, but of course I was relaxing on Saturday, when I was still trying to convince myself it was allergies. Then on Sunday I had to make a bunch of cards for World Card Making day, and I felt like something the cat dragged in.

Anywho, this card is for sketch number 148 over at skipping stones designs check out the blog over there for the sketch, and the other design team members' inspiration, because you can win if you play along with us!

Sentiment is from Dandelion Dreams set. Texture is from Timeless Textures set.

I was hanging out on pinterest the other day, looking at color combos. I even printed a bunch out and put them in my journal/calendar/smash book. This is one of the combos I found. I adapted it a little bit. The original only had two blues I think. I think it turned out kind of fun! I stamped the texture all the way across in the same slate blue chalk ink to add some continuity to the array of shades.
